Virtual Line Dancing

Greetings, my Terpsichorean Friends!

This week we will do Jerusalema (video), again.  This is such a great song, and because of its worldwide appeal, I want to be sure we know this dance well, should we find ourselves dancing in public again.  If you go to the Copperknob site, and look up the version choreographed by Colin Ghys, Alison Johnstone, and The Zezura Shona People, you will see what I am talking about by the number of videos there are!  Or go to YouTube.com and search Jerusalema.  According to the notes in the step description, "This song became viral with a tribal challenge dance originating from Zezuru Shona people living in eastern Zimbabwe and bordering Angola, especially in the Murewa, Kizomba na Rua and Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe districts."  There are a few varieties, some very simple, and some the full 64-count version.

Following will be a new dance, not just to us, but to the world!  It was choreographed in February 2021 by Darren Bailey, and it's called I Got You (video), done to I Got You by Anders Sohn.  I hope you like it!

I look forward to seeing you at 7:30 this Sunday!

Virtual Line Dancing

Tonight we will review the new dance introduced last week, choreographed in February 2021 by Darren Bailey, called I Got You (video), done to I Got You by Anders Sohn.  It's not an easy dance, and has a lot of syncopation, but is well worth the effort!

Following that, we will review Gleeful Waltz (video), which was introduced a few months ago.  The video shows it being done to the Glee Cast version of, "What the World Needs Now," but we use Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You."  (I think there is a "got you" theme going here!)

I look forward to seeing you at 7:30 TONIGHT!

Virtual Line Dancing

I need to share with you that Lee Roehl has passed away.  Lee loved to dance and was the first dance instructor at The Town House in 1991.  Before that, he and his partner, Dave Olds, danced every Sunday night at The Gay 90s to the live band DC & Hawk.  The two of them would be the only ones doing a line dance, and, having never seen line dancing before, I thought how odd it looked!  Lee's contributions to the LGBTQ+ country dancing community cannot be overstated.  Not only did he teach dance, he founded Borderline, a line dance performance team in the early 1990s.  His favorite dance was the shuffle, also known as the triple-two step.  So, tonight's dances will be two that I think Lee really liked:  Tumbleweed and Tahoe Kick.  I say this because he incorporated some of the steps into Borderline's dance routines.

I look forward to seeing you at 7:30 TONIGHT!

Virtual Line Dancing
Tonight we will start with the very fun dance, Uptown Funky (video), done to the song Uptown Funk
by Mark Ronson (featuring Bruno Mars).  I'm sure you know the song.  It was on the radio for many, many months and there were countless memes about it.  Here is one of my favorites!

This will be followed by Having A Ball (lesson) (demo), another great dance to a great Marvin Gaye song, Got To Give It Up.
